Please listen first before reading, thanks. So, some of you have heard the music that I have been working on. (on my own and not in band format that is) I am a little stuck with the whole project, but as I currently have 19 pieces in various states of unwritten I just chose one to try and finish first. I know this isn't everyones favorite but it is one I quite enjoy. Anyway, my problem is this. I don't really know where to go, I may change the dynamics so different parts recede or come to the fore, I may increase the harmonies (although that might be done by putting in additional melodies rather than turning parts into chords) This series was started as a response to the very simple music that I have been writing for the band I am in, and in response to my re-reading of Henry Cowell's book New Musical Resources which is about extending then existing techniques to their logical ends, but didn't in fact deal with the new resources of electronic and recorded sound sources. To sum that up, it is about using traditional western (occidental) instruments in the traditional ways but just pushing it further. So while I have basically abandoned the idea of Key and Consonance/Dissonance I hope at least to reference them, other pieces do so more directly #12 basically being a joke about playing " in key" . It would be great to hear (ahem) what anyone makes of it, and where you think it could go, or should or shouldn't. I don't really know if there will be anything I can use but emotional language helps probably twice as much as technical as far as music is concerned.
